Temple of Tooth in Kandy

The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a temple in the Historical city of Kandy in Sri Lanka. It was built within the royal palace complex which houses the Sacred Tooth Relic of The Buddha, is possibly the most sacred Buddhist shrine in the world. It is venerated not only by Buddhists in Sri Lanka and considered the foremost sacred place of worship in the Buddhist world.

This ancient city declared as a World Heritage by the UNESCO is surrounded by a ring of mountain ranges and Sri Lanka's largest river Mahaweli Ganga. Kandy enjoys a salubrious climate and still breathes the ancient lifestyle of the people. The heritage of Kandy, Architecture, Sculpture, painting, Dance and Music, all such cultural traditions are endemic to Sri Lanka. The annual pageant (Esala Perahera) of this sacred Temple constitutes the greatest religious festival of Sri Lanka which attract thousands of pilgrims as well as tourists from all over the world.
